This place does a great open house once a year, in July. The exhibits are fascinating, and there’s something for everyone. Definitely something to check out.

Crown Jelly, Monterey Bay Aquarium

All of my Monterey Bay Aquarium photos are noncommercial and are offered to any for free, as long as they abide by CC BY-NC-ND 3.0. The aquarium may use them in any way it would like if it finds any that are suitable.
The Crown Jelly is going to be as big a hit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, in my opinion, as are the Leafy Sea Dragons.
It’s the only aquarium in the world to feature, at this writing, Crown Jellies, so it was a privilege to be able to photograph them.
"When it comes to looks, few jellies are as far out as this one," states information provided at the tank by the aquarium.
"It wears a kaleidoscope of colors, with its bright purple bell above and lacy mouth-arms beneath ~ spread out like a thick shag carpet.
"With fleshy fingers on top of its bell and fine filaments trailing, this jelly makes for a surreal sight."
On some of my photos, I took creative license and altered the hues a bit, but unless you seem them for real, I’m not sure any camera can get it exact, but I’m sure many will try.
It sure does. For more information about the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the jellies, please visit the aquarium’s official Web site: www.montereybayaquarium.org/
