Letters: ‘Wiz’ or ‘whiz’ in math?

In “Working for a better life” (Dec. 27), Dennis Taylor refers to Arturo Avolos as a “math wiz.” I think he means “whiz” from “whiz kid.” Wiz is short for wizard, as in “The Wizard of Oz,” which was the basis for the play and film “The Wiz.
