A Navy Exchange Autoport employee was stabbed in Monterey Thursday while he was working on a car, military officials said.

The attack happened at the auto port at Naval Support Activity Monterey, home to the Naval Post Graduate School

“Stabbed him several times as many as five times,” said Commanding Officer of Naval Support Activity Monterey Capt. Kevin Bertelsen.

The attack happened at 10:15 a.m. on the Naval Postgraduate School campus, the attacker has no known Department of Defense connections and Bertelsen said they do not know how he got on base.

“The first time any body was even aware that he was there, was when the incident occurred, how he actually gained access to the base is under investigation,” Bertelsen said.
