Whale Watching in Monterey Bay is best from November to March. There are several local charters you can hop on; private charters are also available.

A lot of people may not realize it, but there are several different types of whales that migrate through the Monterey Bay. Gray Whales are seen from mid December through April; Blues and Humpbacks, May through December. You can also occasionally spot Killer Whales, Minke Whales, Fin Whales, and Beaked Whales.

There are also several kinds of dolphins and porpoises; it’s pretty cool to see the dolphins dive-bobbing through the waves at the same time huge whales are spouting and making their way across the Bay. Add some seagulls screeching overhead and you can’t help but feel the rush of being on the open sea.

Video by Jason watts; excellent.
