There are several good hotels near the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Monterey, famous for its thriving aquatic resources and attractions is one of the biggest tourist spots in the state of California. The Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is one of North America’s largest aquariums, is one of the most visited places in Monterey. Surrounded by the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, a federally protected ocean, it houses many important marine science laboratories.
The Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa is located over the scenic Monterey Bay. The hotel is located in the Cannery Row, which makes it easy to enjoy the area’s many attractions such as the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa combines elegant architecture, wide-sweeping ocean views and sophisticatedly stylish ambience to create the perfect vantage point where one can enjoy the gentle sounds of the surf, the fresh scent of sea air and the sight of beautiful sea creatures.
The Monterey Hotel and Spa offers a wide range of activities and attractions. Guests can kayak from the Hotel’s beach, play golf at one of the 19 nearby championship courses, and go sailing, scuba diving in the protected marine sanctuary of Monterey Bay. The European Spa in the hotel offers guests the experience of relaxing treatments and full service.
The Monterey Hotel and Spa has deluxe and luxurious suites. The guests enjoy rooms complete with classic style furniture, European duvet-bed coverings, TV’s, and On Command video systems. Large marble baths with a divided vanity area are featured in every room along with plush terry robes, and a hair dryer and complimentary Gilchrist & Spames personal bath amenity. Guestrooms in the Monterey Hotel and Spa offer private, ocean-view balconies overlooking the beautiful Monterey Bay.
The Monterey Hotel and Spa houses the Schooners Bistro on the Bay, a restaurant suspended over the waters, which offer fresh fare in a unique environment. The Schooners’ menu concentrates on fresh seafood with choices of several different preparations. The broad menu includes pastas, hot appetizers, unique salads, sandwiches and mouth-watering homemade desserts. The heated outdoor terrace of the Schooners Bistro invites al fresco dining all year round; while its classic sailing vessel interior makes it fun and appealing all-year round in all weather conditions.
Ideally located in the heart of downtown Monterey, the Monterey Hotel is an excellent base for exploring all that the Monterey Peninsula has to offer.
The Monterey Hotel was heralded the best European Hotel, west of Chicago when its doors opened in 1904. The Monterey hotel has been reworked, refurnished and restored to its original look. Hand carved glass, antique patines. Leaded chandeliers, wooden floors shined and polished evoke pictures of the late Victorian period building styles. Keeping close to its historic nature, elevator access is unavailable in the Monterey Hotel.
The old-fashioned look complete with plantation shutters; hand carved furnishings and ceiling fans of the Monterey Hotel does not say the same for its amenities. Modern day conveniences such as comfortable and plush beds, TV sets with cable, two-line phones with data ports and a voice mail service are available. Conference rooms complete with projectors are available for business guest for a team meeting after coming home from the convention center nearby.

Monterey Bay Aquarium video taken in September 2009 with my Canon HF100 camera. This was our first visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California and hopefully not the last. The staff were all very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable……first rate all the way. This video shows only a few highlights of the many fascinating animals that live there. My favorites are here – the kelp forest, amazing jellyfish (which look like ufos or something alien or at least like something out of science fiction), seahorses, sea otters, and the Outer Bay exhibit which also contained the aquarium’s new young female Great White shark. The Monterey Bay Aquarium should not be missed if you are in the area! UPDATE: This Great White Shark has been released back to the ocean. Click on “HD”. You may have to hit pause and let it load through once before watching in Hi-Def, depending on how slow YouTube is acting at the time. Watching the videos “in channel” in HD seems to give good results, sometimes. Give it a try. Helps a bit if your computer is fast. Not bad in non-HD also.

One of the most beautiful aspects of the game of golf is the variance between playing terrains. There are great courses, and there are terrible ones, but there’s a world of new playing experiences available to you. In this article, we’ll highlight some of the top places to play golf across America.
- Pebble Beach Golf Links is one course that has received much critical acclaim. Located in Pebble Beach, California, the course has brought class and elegance to the game of golf since its inception in 1919. It was ranked the number one public golf course in America in Golf Digest’s 2005 list. The terrain is a thing of beauty, with holes cutting across ragged coastline and the great Pacific Ocean being incorporated into most holes. Spanning 6,737 yards, this 72-par course has been host to numerous golfing events throughout the years, with the 2000 U.S. Open Championships being held the most recently at the course.
- Located in Pinehurst, North Carolina is the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club. This historic golfing locale has been around since 1895, and features 8 separate golf courses, allowing for much diversity in play. Spanning over 2,000 acres, you can spend weeks just getting used to the different courses. A wonderful place to vacation, Pinehurst also features much in the way of accommodations and recreation.
- Shadow Creek is a golf course located in North Las Vegas. Designed by an architect of much critical acclaim named Tom Brizio, the course is featured in an extravagant package that you can purchase at one of Vegas’s MGM Mirage properties. Upon setting your tee time, a private limousine will pick you up at the hotel and transport you to the course. The landscape of the course is highlighted by beautiful scenes, with waterfalls, creeks and mountains dotting the landscape. Be sure to check out the 18th hole at Shadow Creek; it is a trademark of the beauty and careful thought that went into creating the course.
These are merely a few of the best public courses throughout America. There are hundreds of wonderful courses out there, and as a golfer, you’re encouraged to make at least a few pilgrimages to the beautiful courses our land has to offer.

Movie day with the family, followed by delicious dining and maybe a nighttime bike ride encompasses the feel of Carmel Valley and what owners of Carmel Valley homes consider to be the ultimate place to raise a family. With the convenience of employment centers to homes, parks and schools and unlimited child and adult activities, Carmel Valley is the city with the promise of a fulfilling life. An immense master-planned community, located north of downtown San Diego and just east of Del Mar lies Carmel Valley.
For thousands of years, Carmel Valley was occupied by American Indians. The San Dieguito Indians and then the La Jolla Indians and Diegueno Indians were resident to this valley. For many years after San Diego was largely developed this area was still being farmed. Believe it or not, Carmel Valley homes are pretty recent as the valley remained open space until 1982. Pardee Homes first created Del Mar Highlands as the first Carmel Valley homes. Now, homes are now spread out in numerous different Carmel Valley neighborhoods filling that once vacant land. The 56, a new 4 lane highway runs on the southern side from east to west connecting to both the I15 and I5, access in and out goes is available in many directions.
Residents are mostly young professionals, executives and employees of nearby biomedical, software and telecommunication companies with families.
Those who live in Carmel Valley homes often refer to the lifestyle as an active one. For hikers, walkers, runners, skaters and bikers, and a wide-range of trails and sidewalks that meander through the beautiful scenery.
The Carmel Valley Recreation Center has been noted as one of the best in San Diego County. It provides residents with total sports facilities and ball and soccer fields, swimming pool, tennis courts and gymnasium. The youth programs are extremely popular here and there are even adult classes available as well. For a more private upscale sports club, the Pacific Athletic Club offers facilities for the health and athletic needs of Carmel Valley residents. A huge hit are the free concerts in the summer located in the neighborhood parks of the Carmel Valley homes. Great performances year after year have the locals coming back again and again.
Chic retail stores, movie theatres, family entertainment and a variety of restaurants are available to those living in Carmel Valley homes. It can all be found in one of the a few major shopping centersy. Carmel Valley real estate has a wide variety of elegant homes, affordable condominiums and apartments. There was usually a demand for larger executive homes so there seem to be new homes always under construction. It’s great proximity to the major employment centers are why these San Diego homes are considered to be in the best location in San Diego by many. Combine it all with some of the most respected schools in California, like Del Mar Union School District, The Solana Beach School District and the very highly-rated San Dieguito Union High School District and you can see why many families are quickly choosing Carmel Valley as their home of choice.
Drive the neighborhoods, check out the parks and recreation areas, grab lunch in any of the shopping centers, and you too will understand why the “natives” love living here.
